An Update on Engagement: YU Self-Reflection Toolkit

The YU Self-Reflection DEDI Toolkit was launched on November 2023 and so far, over 1, 475 YU community members have engaged with the modules, with over 678 (more than half) of them having already completed all 5 modules (As of March 31, 2025).

The substantive content of the project took the collaboration of the education and (now defunct) institutional initiatives team at CHREI. I led the LMS development, website and video /graphics and script to audio production portion of the project that translated the toolkit into an interactive resource on YU Learn. But, I wouldn't have been able to do all of it without the support of the entire team who all took on various assignments from recording narration, copy editing, and double and triple checking whether all the links worked and the elements of the interactive modules were working properly and whether regular screen readers can read the content. Since not all interactive elements on H5P can be made fully accessible, a placement student also helped put together the PDF copies of each module (and a team from Glendon translated them in French).

Even our case team members got assignments to record narrations and we had placement students and our administrative support staff doing tedious but highly important stuff like checking and editing the closed captions on YouTube, checking both the LMS and website copy for typos, and testing all of it. Another well-deserved shout-out would be the team on YU Learn that helped me to whip up the format of the resource into the final form as it appears on YU's online learning platform.

I learned a lot from doing this project. I have no formal background in animation and we did not exactly have much time, nor resources to put this together. I used a free Canva account to put together all of the videos simply because it was the fastest way to do it.

Because the resource is meant for YU community, the content on YU Learn can only be accessed via YU Passport. However, sample content is available on the Toolkit website:
